Foundation Herd

The starting family

Our first alpacas arrived at our farm in May 2004 three breeding females, Suricaya Simone, Nichole and Arunvale Tajo. They are mid brown, fawn and black - our aim being to produce high quality coloured alpacas apart from looking wonderful in the paddocks. To keep them company we also added two geldings Jackel’s Topsy – rose grey- and Rodney’s Valentine – white. We have a wonderful picture of them all shortly after they arrived.

Their different characters could easily be seen from the beginning - Tajo is very haughty and aloof, Simone extremely calm and gentle with Nichole very easily upset and fairly vocal when it comes to shearing time! Jackel’s Topsy was the boss and protector and Rodney’s Valentine his inseparable friend.

Our Growing Herd

In October 2005 we brought 8 girls and 2 stud males in from Canada – they came from two breeders in Ontario Nancy Carr of Silver Cloud Alpacas and Terry Hilborn of Charbonnel Alpacas. One of the benefits of buying from smaller breeders is that our new alpacas were very used to human contact and were easy to handle and integrated well with our existing family.
